His/Hers

Posted in Uncategorized on April 5, 2011 by miabeach

When I am creatively blocked, or just looking for some time in my darkroom, photograms are usually what I fall back on. Lately, I have been thinking a lot about relationships: gender binary, the social investments of relationships, traditional ideas about love, fidelity, gender, and long term partnering.  Just mulling it over, and while I have been doing so- a little series of images was created.

His/Hers/His is a series of photogram diptychs. Whether these are the end of a small exercise, or the beginning of a larger project- I’m not really sure. I’ll post more as it progresses (if it does!)

Other new work: Family series

I’ve been pretty swamped editing images for my wedding work and Bit Parts, but I wanted to add a few new images I have worked on in my spare time:

Elise was normally a very shy girl

He had his misgivings in that moment.

The meeting was ended early after a dispute over the lunch menu.

Although they passed it each day, this was the first time they had noticed the grave markers.

"I've never had a job I loved as much as this one."

We knew that someday soon everything would change.

The unicycle act ran into some unfortunate problems when they came upon the lions

She spent the summer hiding out on a fruit farm in Homestead.

At this distance, it became hard to tell which boat was his.

New Work (continued)

Here are a few more images I have been working on for the Bit Parts project:

Even as a child, his adventuresome spirit lead him to wander from home, much to his parents' distress.

Spring marks the beginning of the city's world famous dance festival

At the parade's onset, it became clear that Mr. Sellers and his tortoise were up to no good, again.

The field trip was cut short when several students wandered away from the group.

Despite its unfortunate location near the bird sanctuary, his car lot surpassed initial expectations.

Their planes flew low

Visitors are not encouraged to handle the puppets

That’s all for now, but I am close to done with several more, and will post them when I am finished.

Thanks to everyone who has supported the project.

In keeping with my Kickstarter project, I am currently working on new Bit Parts pieces. I’ll be uploading them here as a way to update my backers on the project’s progress.

Here is a new photo from the series, updates with other new work will follow shortly…
